Resilient Harmer Narrowly Misses Out At Q School

This week saw the 3rd event of stage 1 of Q School for the DP World Tour played at Huddersfield Golf Club in Yorkshire. Q School is an opportunity where hundreds of professional golfers & elite amateurs battle it out over 3 separate events to gain their playing rights & ranking on the Challenge & DP World Tours.

This week Eagle Ambassador, Ryan Harmer was teeing it up in the fine Yorkshire countryside following his withdrawal last week due to illness. Being bed bound for 3 days with zero appetite is hardly the ideal prep but Ryan got up to Huddersfield a few days early to prepare. He had a good couple of days walking the course, playing some holes on top of a few range sessions throughout his game. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to get out on the back nine to play a full 9 holes due to fog but nether the less felt ready ahead of his first tee time on Tuesday.

Ryan admittedly didn’t get off to the ideal start where following a couple of early bogeys in the wind he got caught up in the deep rough on the par 5 14th where it was so thick he took 3 attempts to get back in play and walked off with a Triple Bogey. At the end of his first 9 holes of Q School, Ryan found himself +7 over par. At this point you could go one of two ways; One being let the weeks of build up & prep flutter away and the opportunity pass you by, or you could put the last two hours being you, roll your sleeves up and stick to the process.

Hats off to Ryan, he chose the latter & he stayed focused on the job in hand. Played one shot at a time, stayed in the present moment and fought his way back into the contest. He mad a faultless -3 on his back 9 including an Eagle 3 on the Par 5, 3rd Hole bringing his score back to +4.

In rounds 2 & 3 Ryan continued his solid play he had built on his 2nd 9 on day one shooting 1 Under & Level Par respectively. The windy, unpredictable weather on the Yorkshire hills were making ball striking crucial & Ryan was feeling happy with him control keeping him within 3/4 shots of the qualifying spots. He knew he would have to shoot minimum -3/-4 on the final day to stand a chance of progressing.

Ryan went onto shoot an impressive -3 in the final round which included 5 birdies and 2 bogeys. He set up a few good chances coming home & hit some agonisingly close putts but thy didn’t quiet drop on this occasion. He ended up missed out progressing to Stage 2 by just 2 strokes but took away lots of positives from the week.

“Regardless of the outcome, I feel like I’ve made huge progress this week, knowing that I can execute high quality golf shots under the most pressure. I now want to finish the season strong on Clutch where I’m at Harleyford next.”Ryan Harmer

Robbo Wins By 3 Shots

This week the Clutch Pro Tour saw their Tier 2 Event being hosted at the stunning Heythrop Park Golf Course.

Our ambassadors Liam Robinson, Alex Belt & Ryan Harmer were all teeing it up in testing conditions which only saw 3 of the whole field under par after round 1. Liam & Alex were tied on Even Par going into day 2.

Alex hurt is neck in the warm up which meant he wasn’t at full fitness for the second round but the true gritty pro he is saw him finish T10 including 2 x Eagles.

But the day was taken by Liam who was playing at his home club this week. His super impressive 66 (-6) was the low round of the week and blew the field away to win by 3 clear shots.

A massive congratulations to Liam on his win, lets hope the positive performances continue for all the ambassadors.

We caught up with Liam last week and will be launching our first “Players Series” videos with him on our YouTube channel this Friday … SUBSCRIBE

How much should we drink on the golf course?

How Much Should We Drink On The Golf Course?

A common question I get asked is “how much fluid should we be taking during a round of golf?”. Obviously this is dependent on the length of the course, duration of the round and temperature we’re playing in but a good rule of thumb is around 2liters of water for 18 holes.

We should also be looking at the quality of water/fluid we are taking in too. Sports drinks that contain electrolytes can really help with replacing the body with minerals that we lose during exercise. I use the electrolyte tablets from Kinetica which dissolve into my 2L drink, this helps replenish my body allowing me to perform better, stay more focused during the round but also helps me recover better post round.

Try adding this to your routine and let me know how you get on.

Eagle Ambassadors Shine At Luton Hoo

Ambassadors Shine At Luton Hoo

This week saw 3 of our UK ambassadors battle it out on the Clutch Pro Tour in the event at Luton Hoo Golf Club. Liam Robinson, Alex Belt & Ryan Harmer all tee’d it up in the first Tier 2 event which has some fantastic opportunities to progress up the professional golf ladder with some good results.

It was great to see It was great to see all 3 players in the red numbers after round 1. Ryan -4, Liam -3 & Alex -1 🙌🏻

Onto day two & with both Liam & Ryan both at -6 and within 3 shot of the lead with a drivable par 4 & 2 x Par 5’s to come they were both in the mix.

Unfortnately, both dropped shots in the middle of the back 9 which took them out of contention but a strong Birdie, Birdie, Birdie finish for Robbo gave him a Top 5 finish 🤌🏼

Special mention for Ryan who recorded his first Eagle in Eagle in competition & a solid week all in all🦅

We’re also really looking forward to seeing Alex Belt on the Clutch Tour throughout the season after dominating as normal in the North of England Pro events. Give him a follow to check out how he travels, sleeps at events in his super cool campervan!

Best 3 Shots Golf Club

Best 3 shots golf club

Best 3 Shots Golf Club

How many times do we come in after a round of golf and talk about the if only, the could have and then should have been’s? We all do it after nearly every game! Try this after each round and I promise your mindset will change!

Recently I was struggling with my golf game, not happy with the scores and I was letting off some steam in our golf group chat. One of my friends, Tom, replied and asked me to describe my best 3 shots that I’d hit that day. It took me by surprise at first but sure enough I started to think back through my round & I was really surprised at how hard it was to answer.

You would think by how upset I was with my round that it was tough to answer due to lack of shots to choose from but in fact it was the opposite. I was amazed at how many good shots I had hit despite the poor score. It was still actually tough to pick just 3 good shots I’d hit. It made me think about all the good shots in order to rank them. Realising there was lots of positives in that round of golf of which I wasn’t happy with.

This has really helped me change the way I evaluate my rounds. Although it’s good to know your weaknesses to help highlight areas to practice and improve, but by picking your best 3 shots, you go through and realise how good you can be and have been that day. It takes the emotion out of the round and put some positive perspective on it.

From now on in our group chat we automatically tell one another our score, quick evaluation but more importantly describe our 3 best shots to each other and it’s great! I would strongly recommend jotting these down in your post round notes or let your golf nerd pals know them, they will enjoy hearing about it I promise.

It was great to see so many people representing Eagle Apparel Golf on the day. We also saw a lot of our new Pimento Cheese Sandwich collection on show. The launch was well received and the feedback we had on the new collection was that it was so subtle not many realised that the icons on the clothing were the Pimento Pepper, Cheese, Masters Cup, and White Bread. You can see them below. The subtle touch makes for a clean design and is a nod to the famous Pimento Cheese Sandwich that you see being served at Augusta National in April.
